Listen to the Amchitka Concert CD
Forty years later, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and the estate of Phil Ochs have once again favoured Greenpeace with their music.
Faithfully restored and edited by Peter J. Moore in the original mono format, Amchitka, the 1970 concert that launched Greenpeace is the music as it was played, no digital gimmickry, no tricks.
From stem to stern this live recording delivers songs in their infancy that over the years were destined to become massive hits and anthems.
In Amchitka, the 1970 concert that launched Greenpeace, Mitchell, Taylor and Ochs are playing at the top of their game. Their youth, the times and the politically charged environment (Canada’s War Measures Act had been invoked that day and the army was in the streets) are all essential ingredients in this magical, musical, ambient brew.
Some of our favorite moments…
- Joni singing a soaring Woodstock barely a year after the actual event.
- Joni, age 26, showing incredible grace under pressure and professionalism beyond her years as she eases back into For Free after losing her way.
- Joni breaking out of Big Yellow Taxi directly into the seldom if ever heard Bony Maroney and the youthfulness of one of the most recognized and enduring voices in contemporary music.
- The passion of Phil Ochs as he settles into his performance.
- The marriage made in heaven between Jame Taylor’s cool, bluesy voice and his absolutely distinctive guitar playing. His love songs are sparse, young and romantic.
- The Mitchell/Taylor duet of Bob Dylan’s Mr. Tambourine Man, another exclusive moment on this CD, as live and spontaneous as one can imagine.
We’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
